The systems that we develop focus on ease of operation for the end user. Our products are flexible, reliable and compatible with a range of third party systems. They are installed across the UK in varied situations, ranging from large fiscal metering sites to small monitor only sites.

Compared with alternative solutions, cost savings are evident in the ease of configuration, testing and commissioning during the project phase. The flexibility of the systems ensure that the same hardware can be used in a range of different situations, simplifying training and spares holding.

The ever changing world of technology is a constant challenge to clients who are looking for long-term availability, stability and security. We design our systems to overcome this challenge by working closely with our suppliers to pre-empt end-of-life, sourcing suitable alternatives ahead of time. Having designed and developed the Remote Telemetry Units as our own products, rather than using off-the-shelf, 3rd-party items, we are able to have full control over their future proofing and long-term availability.

Brightwell DB1 Remote Telemetry Unit

The Brightwell DB1 provides a flexible solution that works with external Profibus systems, that can be as large or as small as you need them to be. It provides a wide range of communication interfaces to connect to other local and wide-area systems, such as fiscal metering, gas quality and customer distributed control systems. The DB1 is intended for larger sites.

Brightwell SB1 Remote Telemetry Unit

The Brightwell SB1 provides a cost effective solution for the majority of gas sites that need a number of inputs but relatively few outputs. It provides sixteen 4-20mA analogue inputs, twenty-four volt free digital inputs and four relay outputs. It’s advantage is that it can operate without the need for large, expensive barrier systems, which significantly reduces the overall cost of the telemetry solution.

VGA Connected Display Screen -  ARCDIS-115

The SB1 RTU and the latest version of the DB1 RTU support a touchscreen connected via the VGA port. This provides a cost effective, easy to use, interface mounted on the front door of the enclosure. This solution also meets the requirements of cyber security departments, by minimising the number of Windows-based devices on site.

Serial Connected HMI Screen - ARCHMI-815

All versions of the Brightwell RTU support an HMI connected to a serial port. The HMI runs Brightwell’s Point Monitor application that provides a powerful and flexible user interface for monitoring and controlling the site. This is particularly useful at the larger sites, especially those with flow control valves. The HMI has functionality for plotting charts and more in-depth diagnositics.

Point Monitor Software

Brightwell Point Monitor software is a proprietary commissioning and diagnostic application for the DB1 and SB1 remote telemetry units. It is available in two forms; one for the Touchscreen HMI and another for the engineer’s laptop. Point Monitor provides a set of tools that allow the engineer to monitor the operation of the site, to diagnose faults and to carry out maintenance operations. Point Monitor supports network specific encrypted communications. The Touchscreen HMIs are delivered with Point Monitor pre installed and the individual Networks control the version of Point monitor issued to the engineers’ laptops.

Brightwell Configuration App

The Configuration app provides an intuitive and logical interface to develop the site-specific configurations that are loaded to each RTU. The configurations provide all the information that the RTU installed on that site needs to know to operate, such as communication address, instrument details and any logic that is required. The app handles all aspects of the configuration, including integration with the workbench application used to develop the logic under IEC-61131-3. The configuration app also generates a suite of reports which show different aspects of the configuration, such as the Modbus details, physical I/O and logic, and also supports archiving of configurations to support version control.

We can provide training on how to use the configuration app, ranging from single day courses that look at the process of making changes such as communication address updates and scaling factors, through to multiple day courses covering all aspects of the configuration process.
